6 Easy Steps to Be Elegant and Classy
We, as women, are created beautiful. Being a woman is a blessing from God. It’s our fundamental right to appreciate ourselves and to honor what’s the Creator gives us. It’s an honor and even a duty to love and to take care of ourselves, not by arrogance, but by gratitude and respect towards our Creator, who molded us in the most marvelous and beautiful way - intellectually, spiritually and physically. In today’s article, I’ll focus on how you can enhance your natural beauty and become more elegant in terms of physical appearance. I truly believe that physical appearance can be a reflection of what is in the heart. When done in a humble and grateful way, showing blessings outwardly through elegancy and grace, is a beautiful sign of courtesy, respect and love to our Creator, ourselves and others.
1. Develop a Skincare and Hair Routine
Your skin and hair are a big part of your physical appearance, and they are an important factor for self-confidence. As you look good, you feel good. That’s why, you need to take care of them consistently. The first step of becoming elegant and classy is by developing a healthy skincare and hair routine.
Use products designed for your skin’s particularities, and aim to use a complete range of products. You need at least a cleanser, a toner, a serum and a moisturizer. For more ideas about the skincare routine, I invite you to read the article: 10 Steps of Korean Skincare Routine.
Make sure to also adopt an everyday and weekly hair care routine to keep your hair looking beautiful and healthy. Depending on your hair type, choose the right hair products. Apply a hair mask at least twice a week. You can also make your own hair mask at home, it’s pretty easy and can be fun and relaxing too. Enjoy experimenting with different ingredients until you find the best recipes that suit your hair.
I work as a consultant at Night'N'go, a French skincare brand and I am so blessed to be able to use some of their high-quality skincare and cosmetic products. Below, I share the products and equipments that I use for my daily and weekly skincare routine. Remember it's all about aging with grace. You don't need to buy expensive skincare products to have a beautiful skin. It's all about the routine and being consistent with it.
Once or twice a week, I do an at home microneedling treatment with my Derma Pen containing 12 ultra-thin sterilized needles. After each session, I apply my usual serums and moisturizer. Once per month, I do a Bio-Peeling Marin Treatment from DM. Cell, a Korean skincare brand (distributed by Night'N'go). One of my task at Night'N'go was to create the Bio-Peeling Marin Protocol, so clients whether professionnels or non-professionals learn to perform this skincare treatment in their salons or at home. Composed of active biomaterials, herbal ingredients and extracts from the seabed, the Bio-Peeling Marin complex is considered as both a natural dermabrasion and a microneedling procedure allowing the rejuvenation of the skin. Days following the Bio-Peeling Marin treatment, you will notice the phenomenon of desquamation with the skin peeling a lot. The upper layer of the epidermis starts to renew, and the skin becomes smoother, brighter and more unified.
2. Adopt a Chic and Subtle Makeup
Subtle makeup is key to achieving a neat and elegant style. Makeup must not overpower your entire look, especially for everyday look of work, a brunch with your friends, and even your first date. Be gentle with your foundation and concealer.
Enhance your beautiful eyes but don’t go overboard on the dark liners. Apply your favorite mascara but don’t overdose. Complete your makeup with a hint of blush to warm up your complexion and to instantly makes you look fresher and younger. Don’t forget to take care of your eyebrows and to fill them, this will make you eyes appear wider and add dimension to the rest of your face.
As a French women (born in France) with Asian origins (Cambodian and Korean), I was strongly influenced by the French natural way of doing makeup. I usually never wear any foundation nor concealer. As I try to be very consistent with my skincare routine, I don’t have many imperfections and the texture of my skin is pretty smooth. I don’t do any contouring nor carving out my eyebrows that I believe to be a very American way of doing makeup.

3. Choose the Right Perfume
A wonderful smell traverses nature to the realm of spirit and can elicit divers emotions. A delicious perfume can enhance your mood and elevate your vibration. That’s why, you should not avoid using perfume - of course, always in a subtle and elegant way.
Different fragrances can trigger distinct smells on your skin. Try several perfumes (ask for samples) before choosing a permanent one that will be your signature perfume - this perfume should tells a part of your story and personality, the one that communicates who you are.
My signature perfume is Coeur de Rose from Acorelle, a subtile yet sophisticated combination of the rice powder scent and rose petal essence that I bought from an organic local store. The rice powder scent reminds me of my Asian origins and childhood (yes, I used to eat rice almost everyday, like EVERYDAY), it brings a peaceful and soothing vibe, whereas the rose scent triggers a more feminine and romantic energy.
For years, I wasted money on high-end luxury perfumes, (but in fact, truly you buy the marketing) their smells were always too strong, too sticky. I ended up never wearing them, as I prefer something more delicate and subtile, suiting best my personality.
4. Wear Beautiful Fabrics and Clothes
We’ve honestly wasted thousands of dollars on clothes that we’ve never worn. We’ve made bad purchases to satisfy some kind of emotional need (especially, in our 20s) and the excitement of having a new cloth was always temporary. Most of the time, these clothes didn’t represent who we really are.
Since my 30s, I've drastically change my purchasing habits. It have saved me a lot of money (and my sanity!). Invest in quality clothing and see it as an investment for yourself. Indeed, clothes you wear affect your behavior, attitudes, mood, and the way you interact with others.
Beautiful clothing made from timeless and classical fabrics such as organic cotton, linen, wool, and silk, are extraordinary materials that elevate your style and your overall vibration. Remember that God created you beautiful and blessed, so treat yourself as a divine princess and your clothes as treasures. You deserve to feel at your highest every single time you wear one of your clothes.
For more than a year now, I don't buy new clothes in fast-fashion stores. I don't enter at any fast-fashion stores such as H&M or Zara anymore (I was guilty to buy tons of stuffs from them). Clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. Fashion brands changes their collections every 3 or 6 months, that's just crazy!
Where I live in South of France, I am lucky to find second-hand stores offering very unique and gorgeous pieces from high-end brands for super cheap (I mean SUPER SUPER CHEAP). I prefer buying second-hand clothes that are timeless and in good quality, than new clothes made from low-quality materials. My last findings were a real genuine leather jacket from Naf-Naf brand for only €5 (approximate price at €230!) and a trench coat from Le Comptoir des Cordonniers for €10 (approximate price at €245!).
5. Embrace the Minimalist Approach
In this fulfilling journey of being more elegant and classy, it’s not always easy to define your personal style. That’s why, at the beginning, I suggest you to follow the minimalist approach when trying to achieve a sophisticated look. A minimalist outfit brings a sense of refinement and purity. It can easily be realized by wearing neutral colors or monochromatic outfits - one single color or varying tones of one hue. Choose nude or black shoes, a plain white shirt, a camel coat, rather than bold colors. If you feel more confident, you can opt for a red color outfit which can be extremely chic and glamorous when wear it right. Don’t overload your outfit with superpositions and too many eye-catching accessories. Try to keep your overall look as minimalist as possible. Accessories are meant to add an extra touch of style and personality to your look. A statement necklace or a pair of earrings can be more than enough for an elegant and classy look, whereas adding too many accessories gives the opposite effect. Being elegant and classy is always a matter of harmony and balance.
6. Paying Attention to Details is Key
Paying attention to detail doesn't mean aiming for perfection, but sometimes it's the thin line between being classy and the fashion faux pas. It would be a mistake to not paying attention to details. Make sure to not ruin your outfit's vibes with torn and ripped clothes, or with apparent defects, thinking that nobody will notice. Always wear clean and ironed clothes, wrinkled outfits make your outfit look cheap and out of place. Hence, make sure to buy clothes that accentuate your body’s shape. Also, it's important to educate yourself about how to dress according to different occasions, you don't want to be under-dressed or over-dressed. Last but not least, take care of your hands and nails, hydrate them often and choose a good quality nail polish. Avoid keeping your nails too long, you don’t want to look tacky but elegant my dear beautiful ladies.
